2025 / 2026 SPORT TOURISM GROWTH GRANTS

To strengthen relationships, reinforce shared destination values, and build long-term partnerships, Tourism Barrie established the annual Sport Tourism Growth Grant, funded through Barrie’s Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT). As the designated recipient of MAT funding, Tourism Barrie is proud to reinvest these dollars directly back into the community through grant programs that are equitable, transparent, and designed to strengthen the local visitor economy—including sport tourism.

The Sport Tourism Growth Grant is available to all local sport organizations and is intended to help organizations grow and enhance sporting events by evolving them into sport tourism products with an overnight stay component. By sharing MAT revenues in this way, Tourism Barrie is supporting local organizations while intentionally growing events that generate measurable economic impact, increase overnight visitation, and build a more sustainable, year-round sport visitor economy for Barrie.
