EQUIPMENT OVERVIEW

Short Track Speed skates
Short track speed skates feature a fixed blade, unlike long track skates, which use a clap skate mechanism. The blades are sharpened by hand using a jig; many members within the club are experienced in skate sharpening and are happy to help.
Boots and blades are typically purchased separately; however, the club offers skate rentals as part of the registration fee. We maintain a large inventory of skates in a variety of sizes, and skate fitting sessions are scheduled at the beginning of each season.
As skaters gain experience, many choose to purchase their own boots and/or blades.
protective equipment
Skaters must dress properly so that no areas of the skin, from the chin down to the toes, are exposed. The following protective equipment is required for all skaters:
Hard shell helmet
Protective sports goggles
Neck guard (with bib preferred)
Cut-resistant gloves
Shin guards (soccer shin guards may be used)
Cut-resistant ankle covers or socks
*Specific gear is at times available through the club or from vendors at meets.
Skinsuits
Comfortable and snug fitting clothing is recommended for skating. Competitive skaters will wear what is known as a skinsuit. These suits are meant to reduce wind resistance and provide the widest range of mobility.
The skinsuits purchased by our club are combination suits meaning that they consist of two layers: Full Dynamix cut-protection integrated under the outer spandex layer with built in knee protection.
A skinsuit is not a requirement for beginner skaters but they are highly recommended for those looking to potentially move towards competitive skating. The club does do orders every couple of years and does have used suits for sale as well. Check in our Buy/Sell section of Equipment for any used suits.
